“It only takes a spark to get a fire going… That’s how it is with God’s love once you’ve experienced it; you spread his love to everyone; you want to pass it on.” (UMH 572)
School is well underway and germs are spreading from house to house. These are contagions we’d rather not pass around but have little control over. Our faith, on the other hand, ought to be contagious!
Have you ever encountered this kind of Christian: someone who easily connects conversation with something they’ve been reading in scripture or a devotional study, something God’s been teaching them lately, or how they’ve seen God at work in their own lives or their community? If you know someone like this, do they totally turn you off or does spending time with them spark something in you?
If this sharing is strictly for God’s glory and not personal boasting, it should spark a desire for God in those who hear it. If the motives are to show off one’s own righteous practices, however, it will turn away potential disciples.
Is your faith contagious? Do you overflow with the fruits of the Spirit in a way that makes other’s spiritual mouths water? Does your life and faith connect in such a way that helps others connect the two? Have you experienced God’s love in a way that has driven you to share it with others? Have you lost that drive? If so, what happened and what is something you can do today to recover your spark again?
You have access to the most incredible relationship. Share it with someone else today!
